Why ordinary people need to understand power

According to Eric Liu, far too many Americans are illiterate in power — what it is, how it operates and why some people have it. As a result, those few who do understand power wield disproportionate influence over everyone else. “We need to make civics sexy again,” says civics educator Eric Liu. “As sexy as it was during the American Revolution or the Civil Rights Movement.”  Given what has just happened in the USA, this talk could not be more relevant.

Eric Liu is the founder and CEO of Citizen University which promotes and teaches the art of great citizenship, a teacher, author and formerly White House speechwriter for President Bill Clinton and later as the President’s deputy domestic policy adviser.  He is the co-founder of the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility a board member of the Corporation for National and Community Service and is a graduate of Yale College and Harvard Law School
